Abstract

This paper describes Project 802 of the Computer Society of the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE)1. Project 802 is defining a standard for local area networks in which microprocessor controlled terminals and other devices are coupled on a peer-to-peer basis. The paper provides a brief history and rationale for the effort and an overview of the current draft standard.
