Abstract

Idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction: Report of a case with neuropathological studies. A case of idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction is reported, including detailed neuropathological studies of the enteric plexus of Auerbach. The villous pattern was normal, but there was considerable hypertrophy of the circular muscle layer. The plexus of Auerbach showed diminished numbers of ganglion cells, and some remaining neurones showed abnormal morphology. The number of Schwann cells was increased.
