Abstract

Background: Levels of burnout in people with diabetes and in healthcare professionals has never been higher and the COVID pandemic has exacerbated this for many. Routine care consultations can be challenging for people with diabetes to provide sufficient key information necessary for effective support by healthcare professionals; and healthcare professionals interrupting their patients on average 11 s after they start to describe the problem. Such communication difficulties contribute to poor health outcomes for people with diabetes and to high levels of burnout for healthcare professionals.
