Abstract

Background: Treatments for Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Oedema are typically clinically based, including intravitreal injections and laser photocoagulation. Use of a light mask worn overnight in a home setting has been proposed as a possible alternative, however patient adherence to home based treatment of chronic conditions is typically low, and thus methods have been sought to improve adherence and patient outcomes. The RENDER study was one such intervention, that was already underway when the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in lockdowns and significant disruption to clinic services in England.
