Background: Hypertension remains an important public health challenge in the U.S. For hypertension patients, the health benefits of aerobic physical activities in conjunction with muscle-strengthening exercises have not been adequately described with population data. Although the association between physical activity and risk reduction for all-cause and CVD mortality is supported with unequivocal evidence in epidemiological studies, mortality risk reductions specific to activity types, frequencies, durations, and intensities have not been clear.
