Abstract
Background: Cognitive decline is a concerning complication for people with advanced stage type 2 diabetes (T2D). Consumption of high-fat, high-sugar western style diets is a risk factor for obesity, T2D and cognitive impairment. Our lab and others have established that cafeteria diet exposure impairs hippocampal dependent spatial memory. However, no previous studies appear to have tested spatial memory in T2D rats after cafeteria diet feeding and examined whether physiological and cognitive measures correlate.
