Abstract

Background: Diabetes affects more than 16.8 million Brazilian adults and significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), microvascular disease, and premature death. Though diabetes can directly cause death and disability, most of its burden is distributed across its complications, especially CVD. Therefore, updated data on the burden of CVD attributable to diabetes in Brazil is needed.
