Abstract
This paper summarizes the recent development of national multi-modal transport network with viewpoint of systems engineering, based on the background of the formulation of the multi-modal transport network planning in China. Author introduces the national integrated spatial layout plan of railways, highways, waterways, civil aviation, pipelines and other various modes of transportation since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and systematically analyzes its preparation and promulgation. Based on years of experience in multi-modal transport system planning and management, the author probes into the problems appeared in theoretical research and practice of transportation system engineering disciplines since 1980s of China's reform and opening up from the perspective of systems engineering methodology, and puts forward the key technical issues in the integrated transport network planning.
