Abstract

RADARSAT gives the opportunity to acquire SAR data over a wide range of incidence angles over the same geographical area. This gives additional backscatter information from built-up areas since different building types and objects will give backscatter variations depending on the incidence angle. In this work, a statistical difference is found between the SAR backscatter from residential houses, industry roofs and cylindrical storage tanks, which may be used to distinguish between areas of these classes.
