Abstract

The assessment of international business opportunities usually begins with a screening process that involves gathering relevant information on each country and filtering out less desirable countries. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the shift-share analysis can be applied to identify market potential and growth in a region and countries and how it can be set up easily on an electronic spreadsheet and used to identify the best market for a specific project. As an illustration of its application, the shift-share analysis was used to identify export opportunities for bakery equipment in the South American Market.
