Abstract

ABSTRACT It is argued that the selection and definition of research topics are crucial early research steps that deserve more systematic attention than is commonly the case. Research topics should be actively sought. Means of finding research topics and narrowing the foci to delimit research questions, through the construction of venn and hourglass diagrams, are suggested. These are crucial tasks for graduate students in which supervisors should provide timely and supportive inputs.
