Abstract
The Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB) retails water to customers located within the City of Eugene, Oregon. Current annual average demand for the full system is approximately 55 megaliters per day (mgL/d) (25 mgd) with a peak day demand ranging up to 155 mgL/d (70 mgd). Water is obtained from the McKenzie River and treated at the Hayden Bridge filtration plant. Capacity of the treatment system is 158 mgL/d (72 mgd). Treated water from the plant is pumped to Eugene along a dedicated corridor (approx. 5.6 km) through the City of Springfield. At the eastern limits of Eugene, the water transmission lines split into three primary supply lines to serve Eugene (Intertie). A base level reservoir is located at the end of each supply line. Above the base level system are five elevated service levels layered along the south hills. Separate pumping and storage facilities provide water to each level. Reservoirs provide storage for ensuring consistent water pressure and flow throughout the system and emergency storage for short periods of duration.
