Abstract

PREVIEWAs a result of childhood immunization against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), acute epiglottitis has become primarily a disease of adults. Without prompt recognition and treatment, serious sequelae and even fatal upper airway obstruction may occur. In this article, Drs Sack and Brock discuss the changing epidemiologic factors, evaluation, and management of this potentially life-threatening condition.
