Abstract

AbstractThe current trend towards digitalization is reflected in many different areas. This is due to the technological revolution in the industry, which is advancing at a rapid pace. All this is a prerequisite for the spread of these technologies at home. The key elements behind IoT are the platforms, applications and services, needed to control smart devices. In this regard, this article aims to analyze the most popular open-source platforms and identify key features to be used in the evaluation process. Once the IoT platforms have been evaluated, they can be presented in a ranked list to serve as a benchmark in the final decision-making. The evaluation of the open-source home automation platform to key features is performed using multi-attribute utility theory. The results show a relationship between the preferences of decision makers and the corresponding ranked lists. Despite this connection, the most important problem in the ranking remains the definition of evaluation criteria. If set of suitable alternatives and key assessment characteristics are known, different models based on multi-attribute utility theory can be used to conduct the assessment and subsequent ranking.KeywordsOpen source softwareHome automation platformIoTDecision-makingMAUTRanking
