Abstract

This research aims to (1) identify the application of science literacy in Early Childhood Education's learning in Surakarta City, Indonesia, and (2) obtain the information about the obstacles of the application of science literacy in Early Childhood Education (ECE) learning. This research is a descriptive study with survey method. The population of this study were all the ECE's teachers in Surakarta City and the sample taken was 64 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire of teacher's response. Data analysis techniques used percentages. The findings of this study show that the indicators of science literacy based on school culture get various criteria. Most of schools already have science literacy reading material for students, science literacy activities have been carried out, teachers have accessed online sites related to science literacy, have an allocation of funds for science literacy, and have presented science literacy information in various forms. Besides, more than half of schools have science literacy monthly activities and policy regarding science literacy. Furthermore, less than half of school that its student never borrowed books and do not have a literacy team.
