Abstract
Quantitative X-ray microanalysis of respirable asbestos fibres, based on the ratio method, enables the identification of different asbestos varieties in the submicrometre diameter range. A new identification scheme is proposed and applied for samples from an asbestos-cement factory and from a mining site. STEM analysis is compared with other methods of single particle analysis.
