Abstract

The discoloration of exterior paint, has been shown to occur when H2S in the air reacts with heavy metal salts used as pigments or fungicides in the paint. Simple field tests can give an indication whether H2S was involved. An electron diffraction technique is described to identify the discolored compound in paint samples. Field experience in Jacksonville using this method is described.
