Abstract
Social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube are becoming increasingly powerful tools that are used to spread radical ideologies and propaganda. The three main social networks of today – Facebook, Twitter and YouTube – have a total of 3.2 billion users, which is a staggering figure of about 42% of the world's population. Identifying extremist content is a top priority for anti-terrorism agencies, technology companies and governments. The main purpose of the article is to understand the definition of extremism and provide a detailed overview of current research on extremism on the Internet.
