Abstract

Problems on the identification of two-dimensional spatial domains arising in thedetection and characterization of material damage are considered. Forelectromagnetic nondestructive evaluation systems, observations of the magneticflux from the front surface are used in a output least-squares approach. Parameterestimation techniques based on the method of mappings are discussed andapproximation schemes are developed applying a finite-element Galerkinapproach. Theoretical convergence results for computational techniques are givenand results are applied to numerical experiments to demonstrate the efficacy ofthe proposed schemes.
