Abstract

Abstract The paper deals with issues of letterbox companies, which are one of the main problems of the European road transport market. Some European road transport companies establish letterbox companies in countries with low labor costs and weak enforcement. These companies then carry out transport operations mainly outside the country in which they are registered. While there is a lack of significant empirical evidence on the scale of this problem, it is an important issue and a classic example of social dumping or unfair competition in Europe. The aim of this contribution is to identify the undesirable influence of letterbox companies on competition in the European Union. The aim of the paper is also to verify that the creation of letterbox companies is not only related to the problem of non-compliance, but also to the issue of social dumping which is being investigated in the conditions of the Slovak Republic.
