Abstract

Abstract: Female sex pheromone of click beetles represent multicomponent systems. From 1980 to 1993 pheromones of Agriotes, Sinaptus and Melanotus genera were examined. The esters of geraniol, 8‐hydroxygeraniol, 8‐hydroxynerol (E,E)‐farnesol and all‐trans geranylgeraniol were identified as the components of the sex pheromones. In the pheromone glands some species of click beetles contain up to 24 substances. This study confirms the existence of pheromone dialects in Agriotes sputator L. and Agriotes obscurus L. populations.
