Abstract
We have evaluated a new identification system based on 32 assimilation tests with 209 strains of Enterobacteriaceae, Aeromonas spp. and Plesiomonas shigelloides. Results of single tests are independent of the culture medium used (98.1% concordant results between blood agar and MacConkey agar). After incubation for 24 h (48 h) 82.3% (87.1%) of strains were correctly indentified to the species levek and 4.8% (5.3%) to the genus level. Misidentification occurred in only 2.4% of the strains. The excellent performance of the system with a difficult collection of strains will allow its use in routine identification of gram-negative rods in the clinical laboratory.
