Abstract

Statement: Amyloid is a ubiquitous substance that has long been associated with many different pathologic and/or neoplastic processes. Over the last several decades intensive research efforts at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville have been aimed at identifying the pathogenesis of amyloidosis associated with leukemia lymphoma cancer, Alzheimer's, multiple myeloma, and primary amyloidosis. Specific protein identification has been accomplished, including the ability to create discrete antibody markers to some specific amyloid protein aggregates.
