Abstract

While platelet activation by thrombin (via PAR-1 and PAR-4 receptors) and ADP (via P2Y12 receptors) are critical mediators of atherothrombosis, the magnitude of benefit of antiplatelet agents diminishes in the elderly. We hypothesise that such effects are mediated by altered platelet pathways with ageing.
