Abstract

This contribution, presented at the Spring Symposium of the Science Society, was essentially concerned with the problem which beset thr forensic odontologist in the assessment and interpretation of “bite” marks and the probability of subsequently establishing a matching identity. Tooth marks, arch marks and bite marks and bite marks were discussed in relation tot the motvation for the act. Various techniques wrew described which have been developed to augment the photographic record of a bite in attemping to prodice a three-dimensional model of the biter's teeth. The comments were illustrated and supported by various operational cases and finally the preferred mrthods for the presentation of evidence was shown.
