Abstract

Over a thousand air filter samples were collected in Milan over a five year period. These samples were weighted and analyzed by particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and by particle induced gamma-ray emission (PIGE) techniques in order to determine the concentration both of atmospheric particulate and of 28 elements of atmospheric particulate. Receptor modeling, using factor analysis, was applied for source identification on some selected periods of the five years of measurements.
