Abstract
This paper will discuss the effects of the Brazilian law 10.639/03 on children’s literature field and the black and afro-brazilian culture’s portraits from curly hair stories. This paper is a result of research project “Dez anos da lei 10.639 e Literatura Infanto-Juvenil: Discursos afro-brasileiros em construção” and the monography “O mundo começa na cabeça: O cabelo crespo e a construção de identidade nas histórias infanto-juvenis”. Our debate is about Brazilian national identity construction from racial issues. Therefore, the argument concentrates in discuss literature and its participation in the national identity construction. And analyses 6 children’s stories about curly hair from the black and national identity points. At the end, we conclude thinking about what contributions these stories can brings to new national identity arrangements.

Resumo: O presente artigo busca abordar as transformações da produção literária infanto-juvenil após a promulgação da lei 10.639/03 e seu impacto na representação do negro e da cultura afro-brasileira. Discutimos o dilema da construção da identidade nacional brasileira na busca da superação da diferença racial através de alguns momentos da literatura brasileira adulta e infanto-juvenil a fim de abordar outras formas de associar identidade e diferença que passaram a ser possíveis nas décadas recentes. Apontamos estas novas formas por meio da análise de seis livros de histórias infanto-juvenis que têm como temática o cabelo crespo.
