Abstract

Guaglianone, E. R. & Moore, G. 2001. Identity of two South American species of Rhynchospora (Cyperaceae): R. rostrata and R. organensis. Darwiniana 39(3-4): 239-246. The name Rhynchospora rostrata has been applied to two different species of Rhynchospora (subgn. Haplostylis, sect. Longirostres) from South America. True R. rostrata is known only from Brazil (Distrito Federal, Goias, Minas Gerais). The correct name for the other species going under the name R. rostrata is R. organensis, and it is known from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. R. organensis returns to the status of species after being considered as R. corymbosa var. organensis. R. corymbosa, R. rostrata and R. organensis can be distinguished using inflorescence and achene characters, and a key to differentiate them is provided. R. rostrata and R. organensis are also described and illustrated.
