Abstract
In problems of pseudo static deformation the ideal plasticity concept embodied in the yield stress provides a vast simplification by which useful approximate solutions to many complex problems of plastic deformation have been obtained. In the present work it is pointed out that a corresponding simplification for problems of dynamic deformation can be achieved by idealizing the dislocation flux. Such an approximation is termed ideal viscoplasticity and several examples are given applying simple idealizations to fairly elementary problems.
