Abstract

We propose an ideal three-mode model which consists of two types of stochastic motions, nontrapped and trapped dynamics, and of an oscillation to explain the characteristics of the dynamical behavior of supercooled liquids. We calculate the dynamical structure factor and the generalized susceptibility and show that (1) the nontrapped stochastic motion gives rise to an α peak of the susceptibility, (2) the oscillation represents the β peak and (3) the trapped stochastic motion shows the characteristics of the fast process.
