Abstract
We fragmencie wstępu do książki "A Sense of Things" Bill Brown problematyzuje relację powierzchni i głębi przedmiotów w amerykańskiej poezji modernistycznej. Brown wychodząc od sentencji Williama Carlosa Williamsa - No ideas but in things - rozważa teoretyczną możliwość istnienia idei w rzeczach (zamiast idei rzeczy). Odwołując się do poezji Williamsa, ale też fotografii Stranda, tekstów Benjamina i Baudelaira (w obu przypadkach poświęconych doświadczeniu dzieci) przedstawia propozycję myślenia rzeczami, a jednocześnie stawia pytania o współczesne społeczne formy relacji ludzi i rzeczy.
