Abstract
The pharmaceutical industry faces continuing pressures from rising R&D costs, depreciating value of patents and pressures from public authorities to cut healthcare costs. These challenges have increased the focus on shortening development times and the efficiency of Front-End of Innovation (FEI). This paper explores how idea management may be applied as a tool in facilitation of pharmaceutical FEI, which is studied through an exploratory case study of six medium to large pharmaceutical companies. The derived findings reveal several key similarities, which have implications for policy-makers and the way FEI should be supported in Pharma.
