Abstract

This article is an evaluation of a successful experimental telefax network linking seven libraries across the length and breadth of Idaho: one state library, a public library, a law library, and four academic libraries. The network was established to maximize resource sharing and minimize the time required to transfer the information. The project demonstrated that it was possible to establish a cooperative network of different types of libraries and maintain 24-hour turnaround with a volume of 98 requests per month. Cost per transaction decreased dramatically as volume increased. The data transmission form can serve as a useful tool in evaluating areas of collection strength and weakness.
