Abstract
Approximately 8-15% of colorectal cancers (CRC) present with acute malignant large bowel obstruction (MBO). Emergency surgery in this setting is associated with high post-operative mortality and morbidity. Self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) in MBO has been used as bridge-to-surgery (BTS) and as destination therapy for palliation in unresectable tumours. We aimed to conduct a clinical audit to review the safety and efficacy of SEMS placement in patients with MBO in our institution.
