Abstract
Concomitant hiatal hernia repair and transoral incisionless fundoplication (cTIF) is an anti-reflux procedure for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that consists of a hiatal hernia repair followed by TIF. In addition to tightening the lower esophageal sphincter and restoring the gastroesophageal flap valve, a hiatal hernia repair repairs the diaphragmatic crural defect. Although TIF has demonstrated improvement in the number of reflux episodes, total acid exposure time (AET), and DeMeester scores, similar data does not exist for cTIF. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cTIF using wireless 48-hour pH monitoring in addition to quality of life measures.
