Abstract

Cholecystectomy is the gold-standard treatment for patients with acute calculous cholecystitis. Gallbladder drainage or cholecystostomy is an option for high-risk surgical patients who are critically ill or fail to improve with antibiotics. Percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PT-GBD) is generally preferred due to its ease and safety. Recent studies have investigated the role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided transmural gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) as an alternative treatment, but its efficacy remains unclear because of paucity of studies.
