Abstract
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been utilized for decades to manage different pain conditions, particularly, those with a neurogenic origin. However, its usefulness and mechanism of action in treating neurogenic pain in individuals with spinal cord injuries remain unclear. Neuropathic pain in SCI is difficult to treat with modalities like dorsal column stimulation due to loss of efficacy over time, incomplete coverage of painful areas, and undesirable paresthesias in unaffected areas.
