Abstract

Characterizing the physiological effects of neuromodulation is crucial for understanding the mechanism of action and developing effective and safe therapies. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has been proposed as a potential treatment for gastrointestinal disorders (Li et al., 2017). However, its biological effects and therapeutic effectiveness are not fully understood. The purpose of this study was to create a data-driven framework for automated characterization of the VNS effects on the gastric function, measured by the features of electrogastrogram (EGG) recordings.
