Abstract

In developing a neuromodulation device that is intuitive for clinicians and safe for patients, one main challenge is to provide a simple and reliable procedure for device removal. Neurostimulators are always removed at the conclusion of their trial periods and are commonly removed for lead placement revisions or due to complications such as infection or migration resulting in loss of function. Current neurostimulators have limiting design features that complicate the removal procedure.1,2 Here, we demonstrate that an Injectrode, a helical wire rope structure electrode, exhibits properties that allow for removal from the body easily, quickly, and completely.
