Abstract
Lumbar facet cysts are an atypical cause of low back pain and radiculopathy [1,2]. Spinal synovial cysts are benign protrusions of facet joint capsules caused by degenerative spondylosis, most frequently involving the L4-5 level, that can cause mechanical impingement on the traversing nerve root [3,4]. While the typical recommended treatment involves surgical cyst resection, a less invasive, fluoroscopic-guided percutaneous approach may be an effective treatment to consider prior to surgery [1]. In this report, we present a case report of a patient with radicular back pain from a lumbar L4-5 facet cyst who was successfully treated with a percutaneous fluoroscopic-guided lumbar facet cyst rupture.
