Abstract

Spinal cord stimulation devices deliver electrical pulses to treat chronic pain. Previous studies looked at the efficacy of open-loop stimulation where pre-programmed parameters may lead to under-stimulation or over-stimulation while recent studies on closed-loop stimulation offer a system based on evoked-compound action potentials to adjust stimulation doses. This review is aimed at identifying clinical indications for open-loop and closed-loop stimulation devices.
