Abstract

A 93-year-old male with significant cardiac history including CAD, aortic valve stenosis s/p TAVR, symptomatic bradycardia, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, second degree AV block on anticoagulation with an implanted Biotronik cardiac pacemaker was evaluated for chronic low back pain. Patient previously completed conservative modalities and multiple interventional procedures including epidural steroid injections and lumbar medial branch blocks with minimal relief. He was not a surgical candidate. The risks and potential benefits of SPRINT peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) were discussed given his age, cardiac history, and ongoing anticoagulation. Currently, SPRINT is contraindicated in patients with active cardiac implanted devices including pacemakers and defibrillators.
