Abstract

Epilepsy is a neurological condition in which abnormal brain activity results in spontaneous seizures. In patients resistant to drug target therapies, surgery is the most effective long-term treatment option. However, sex differences exist between men and women due to differences in brain development, brain structure, and hormone levels. A better understanding of such sex differences will promote better targeted sex-specific treatments for epilepsy.
