Abstract

Spinal stenosis is the progressive narrowing of the spinal canal causing compression of nervous tissue resulting in painful radiculopathy. Intermittent claudication is defined as radicular pain while walking or standing that is improved by sitting or lumbar flexion and is a cardinal feature of lumbar spinal stenosis [3]. Conservative therapy such as rehabilitation and chemical decompression is first line therapy. Placement of an interspinous process spacer (Vertiflex Procedure, Superion Indirect Decompression System, Boston Scientific) [5] is a minimally invasive second line therapy option for treating spinal stenosis.
