Abstract

In multiple models of pain across rodents and swine, we have shown that external low intensity focused ultrasound (liFUS) can be delivered to modulate pain responses.1 In previous work, a single thermocouple was used to ensure that liFUS therapy stimulates the target (L5 dorsal root ganglia (DRG)) with no adverse heating. To increase confidence that no adverse heating occurs in/ around the entire L5 DRG region, we examine whether magnetic resonance thermometry imaging (MRTI) can accurately assess thermal changes in 2D/ 3D in the region.
