Abstract

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord that causes the loss of motor and sensory function due to disconnections between efferent and afferent pathways of the body and cortical structures.1 61% of patients with SCI experience debilitating chronic pain. Recent neurotracing studies have shown that the insula is a critical hub for the perception and integration of pain.3 However, association of Insula in SCI induced neuropathic pain is unknown. Understanding of the mechanism of pain following SCI injury is critical to elucidate treatments for these patients.
