Abstract

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has become increasingly utilized for the treatment of various chronic pain conditions over the past two decades. However, despite these improvements, the same complications that were encountered in early SCS implantation surgery continue today, including postoperative surgical site infection (SSI). This literature review was conducted to review the surgical literature regarding the relationship between hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM), and risk of postoperative SSI.
