Abstract

Sacroiliac (SIJ) Pain accounts for ∼30 % of lower back pain (LBP). 43% of patients post lumbar fusion have SIJ Pain. General anesthesia has been the mainstay anesthesia for patients undergoing sacroiliac joint fusion. There are many risks associated with general anesthesia. Patients must obtain medical clearance if they wish to proceed with surgery which can be challenging if they have multiple comorbidities. The use of awake sedation has allowed high-risk patients to safely undergo minimally invasive procedures.
