Abstract
Although chronic post-surgical pain may be a relatively new phenomenon, it has become a significant cause of poor quality of life for many people. Almost 90% of adults who had undergone surgery experienced acute pain, and, as a result of suboptimal acute pain management, 74% of those continued to have pain after discharge [1,2]. One French prospective cohort study exemplified that the highest mean chronic pain scores were observed in knee arthroscopy and thoracotomy [1]. Another study found that 58% had chronic post-op pain after a total knee arthroplasty [3].
