Abstract

The obturator nerve is the biggest nerve in the anterior lumbar plexus, which is a group of nerves in the lower back region. Damage and subsequent pain of the obturator nerve can occur due to injuries to the nerve itself or to the nearby tissues and musculature. A 34-year-old varsity basketball coach (female) presented with chronic hip joint pain over the lateral aspect of the hip and anteriorly over the groin radiating down the thigh. She had 3 arthroscopies with some pain relief but continued to report constant, dull and aching pain, which worsened with increased activity such as playing sports. Alternative therapies such as ultrasound-guided injections and medication proved unsuccessful.
